1 Timothy 5:19
“Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses.”
Here Paul is instructing the church not to listen to slander against spiritual leaders unless there are two or three witness willing to testify. Why, because the enemy wants to discredit/destroy the church, and what better way than to attack it’s leadership.
Therefore, do not listen to gossip ever. As long as you give ear to gossip, you encourage the gossiper to continue their sin.
