“Lord God
of Israel, there is no God in heaven or on earth like You.” (v.14)
Here in
chapter 6 we find Solomon’s prayer of dedication for the temple. He begins by recognizing who he is talking to, the God who made heaven and earth, and that
there is none like Him. Solomon’s prayer then moves to thankfulness
for God's covenant promises, and then to petitions for significant areas of the
nation's spiritual life. These included requests for God’s continued
faithfulness, His special attention to prayers offered from the Temple, His
forgiveness, His justice, and His favor and blessing.
I wonder how many of us when we pray, do the same. Do we recognize
who God is? Do we then thank Him for His workings in our lives? Do we intercede
for others before ourselves? Do we seek His justice, favor and blessings? Or do
we just get right to our petitions? We would all do well to remember as Solomon
did in the very beginning of his prayer, who we are talking to, and that there is no God in heaven or on earth
like Him.
Therefore, Give Him the glory due His name.
The Truth
“Among
the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours.” (Psalm 86:8)
