As any craftsmen knows, the finish work makes all the difference between a good product and an exceptional one. Here in
chapter 4 we see the finish work of the temple; from the altar of brass (v.1),
to the doors of gold (v.22) – and every piece symbolic of an aspect of Jesus.
The altar is symbolic of His Sacrifice for us, and the golden doors speak of
His deity and pathway to the Father.
The
extravagance of which Solomon ordered be done in the finish work, is a reflection
of God’s generosity towards us. Just as Solomon did
not cut corners nor use cheep materials in the building of God’s temple, so there
is no measure in His bounty towards us. It is heaped up, pressed down, and
running over. He never says, I will give up to a certain amount, then hold back my
hand; but He continues to give, more than we could ask or think.
As
Christians, we are all under construction and God is still doing the finish
work on us. But, one thing you can be sure of, from the time you give your life
to Him and until He calls you home, He will continue to finish His work in you,
if you'll let Him - using His best tools and materials for the job.
The Truth
“He who
has begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it until the
day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)
