Romans 6:4
“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Jesus was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life.”
Our identification with Jesus Christ is symbolized by baptism. We (who have been baptized) received this new identification of, the death and burial of our old life - while becoming publically linked to Jesus in a new life. Through salvation then we are in Christ, while through baptism, we identify with Christ.
