“They are
exalted a little while, then they are gone; Moreover, they are brought low and
like everything gathered up; even like the heads of grain they are cut off.”
(v.24)
Here in
chapter 24:18-24 Job speaks very passionately denouncing the evil man -
desiring that he would pass quickly from the earth, not to be remembered, nor
have sons, and be cut down like wheat at harvest. Job knows that although the
wicked may have raged against the poor and innocent, he will soon be brought
low and will stand before his maker. As he had
treated the poor, so he will be treated. As he had devoured the houses of the
innocent, so he is devoured.
For
those who fear God however, there is a great contrast. They receive a kingdom
that cannot be shaken (Hebrews 12:28), a mansion in heaven where thieves and
robbers cannot break in, no more pain, no more sorrow,
and there shall by no
means enter anything that defiles - Only those who are written in the Lambs
Book of Life (Rev. 21:27).
Therefore, we should
follow Job’s example and fear God, the one in who’s very hand holds all things.
The
Truth: “And do
not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.
But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
(Matthew 10:28)
