“When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.” (v.10)
Back in chapter 22 Eliphaz had accused Job of, "iniquity
without end" (v.5). Here in our text, we find Job’s reply against that
charge saying that the testing of him would eventually reveal pure gold.
As children of the heavenly Father, we can be grateful that He
loves us enough to discipline us. Whatever He sends our way or allows to come
into our lives is "for our profit, that we may be partakers of His
holiness" (Hebrews 12:10). And sometimes no sooner has God finished a work
with us, He plunges us into the fiery furnace of pain or sorrow again. Why,
that through the fire His work might be rendered permanent in us.
Therefore, even though we don't understand His ways, as Christians
we can agree with Job that, “When He has tested us, we shall come forth as gold.”
The Truth: “After
you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to
His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” (1 Peter 5:10)
