Amos 1:13 “Judgment Against Ammon”
Thus says the Lord: "I will not turn away it’s (Ammon) punishment, because they ripped open the women with child in Gilead, that they might enlarge their territory.”
The Ammonites were fierce and brutal in war. They often fought the armies of Israel, in attempts to extend their own borders westward. In our text, God reasonably agrees that to rip open pregnant women is a terrible thing to do, and He indicates in these verses He would judge that crime.
The purpose of killing the unborn was to eliminate a future army in 20-years, after those babies had turned into men. Our own society would do well to look at it’s practices of destroying life. God says, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” (Romans 12:19)
The Truth
“The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.” (Psalm 19:9)
