“How
blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in
the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the
law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” (vv. 1-2)
Here the
Psalmist points us in the direction of blessedness. Avoid the wicked and
delight yourself in the Word of God, meditate on it until it is assimilated
into our hearts. The promise for that man is, “He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in
whatever he does, he prospers.”
That takes
more than just a casual reading of God’s Word, it must be a part of us. Therefore,
may we all do more than just pick up our Bibles, read a scripture, then put it
back down. Lord help us all to meditate on it and give the Spirit time to work
in us His message to our hearts.
The Truth: “This Book
of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day
and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it.
For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good
success.” (Joshua 1:8)
