“So these
days were to be remembered and celebrated throughout every generation, every
family, every province and every city; and these days of Purim were not to fail
from among the Jews, or their memory fade from their descendants.” (v.28)
After their
enemies were soundly defeated, Mordecai sent letters to all the Jews in all the
provinces obliging them to, “celebrate the fourteenth day of the month Adar,
and the fifteenth day of the same month, annually, because on those days the
Jews rid themselves of their enemies” (v.21). And to this day, the Feast of
Purim, named after the lots that were casted by Haman to determine the day the
Jews would be destroyed, is celebrated from March thirteenth to the fifteenth
with feasting, rejoicing, and the giving of gifts to the poor (v.22).
The
Christmas season is our chance to celebrate our own salvation from evil. As we
remember Christ our savior who was born to, “saved us all from Satin’s power.” So when you are feasting, rejoicing, and
giving/receiving gifts of love this time of year, don’t forget to give thanks for God’s ultimate
gift of “Joy to the world”, His only Son. Merry Christmas!
The Truth: “And
she (Mary) will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He
will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew:1:21)
