Nehemiah 7 "Integrity in Leadership"

“For he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.” (v.2b)

This is a description of the man whom Nehemiah placed in authority over the city of Jerusalem, after the wall was completed. He (Hananiah) was chosen for two reasons; his faithfulness to duty, and his fear of God. Hananiah did not want to do anything that would grieve the LORD, choosing to live his life in such a way that it would please Him in every situation.

The application for us would be, when appointing people to key positions in the church (or in any organization), look for people of integrity who fear God more than most - for the fear of God produces faithfulness, a key element needed in leadership.

The Truth
“For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth comes knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.” (Proverbs 2:6-9)
