For all
of them were trying to frighten
us, thinking, “They will become discouraged with the work and it will not be
done.” But now, O God,
strengthen my hands. (v.9)
In our reading today, we see more of the opposition against the
work of Nehemiah. The attacks included schemes, lies, intimidation and false
prophecies (vv.2-7). Nehemiah had to choose whether he would believe the word
of his enemies or remain steadfast in God’s call. Through his prayer life
Nehemiah was given confidence in God’s protection and the wisdom to recognize
deceit. Therefore, he refused to cower and abandon the work (vv.11-13).
Another great example for us to follow in the life of Nehemiah. We too should be determined to believe, the call of God on our
lives, and not listen to lies and schemes from the evil one. When we are
committed to the truth of God’s Word to our hearts, we can reject the claims
and accusations of Satan. Then, just as the LORD did for Nehemiah, He will do
for us as well – by strengthening our hands to finish the work!
The Truth
“For I
am confident of
this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the
day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
