“These are the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: the
firstborn, Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelite; the second, Daniel, by Abigail the
Carmelite.” (v.1)
The third chapter of Chronicles presents a long list of names of
the sons and descendants of David. It seemingly has nothing theological or
practical to offer. But there is something special about it, and it's all contained in one word: “David.”
David, who
becomes the second king of Israel right after Saul, was one of the most iconic
and respected public figures in his time by the people of Israel. Not only
that, all kings would come from his bloodline as well. How cool it must have
been to be called, the “Son of David!”
Our heavenly Father, like David, is a king - who has made us His
children through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus. Therefore we, who have
accepted Jesus, have our names written on a list saying: “These
are the names of the sons of God!”
If your name is not on His list simply accept Him as your Father
and become a son of God.
The Truth
“But as
many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children
of God, to those who believe in His name.”
