The Humanity Of Moses
“And Moses
and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said to
them, Hear now, you rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses
lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water
came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.” (v.10-11)
Here Moses
not only misrepresents the Lord in anger by calling the people rebels and smiting the rock (as opposed to
speaking to it) but, he also takes credit for providing the water by using the
pronoun we (referring to himself and Aaron) taking the credit for the miracle
that belonged to the Lord.
Be careful
not to misrepresent God or His character. There are consequences for our
actions in His name. Our job is for others to see Christ in us, not to see us
as something more than we are.
The Truth
“Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew
5:16)
