Revelation 10:4
“When the seven peals of thunder had spoken, I was about to write; and I heard a voice from heaven saying, ‘Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them."’
Although John’s primary purpose in writing Revelation is to reveal (Rev.1:1), here he is commanded to omit the utterance of the seven thunders from the biblical record. John, is allowed to hear what the thunders utter, so as to not violate the principal found in Amos 3:7 but, God has chosen not to reveal their message to us.
It is ultimately fruitless for us to speculate as to what was omitted, as it will not be known until it comes to pass. Therefore, we would do well to remember the words of Moses: “The secret things belong to the LORD our God” (Deu. 29:29).
The Truth
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter..” (Proverbs 25:2a)
Biblical truth for soul protection, devotional consideration and spritual encouragement.

Repent And Live
Revelation 9:20
“The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands...”
Here in chapter 9, the first two of the final three trumpets are sounded, releasing demonic judgments upon the earth. Unlike the previous four trumpet judgments, these target man rather than nature.
But, even in the face of “hell on earth,” where man is tormented and 1/3rd of the earth’s population is killed - man continues in his ways and refuses to repent.
It is God’s specific purpose in the midst of judgment to bring repentance. Yet often, as here, men fail to respond to His correction.
The Truth
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

Silence In Heaven
Revelation 8:1
“When the Lamb broke the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.”
The implication here is, when the judgment of what is about to happen becomes visible (by the opening of the seventh seal), both the redeemed and the angels are reduced to silence. This half an hour of silence is the calm before the storm. It is the silence of intense expectation, of awe at what God is about to do.
The seventh seal contains the seven trumpet judgments and the seventh trumpet contains the seven bowl judgments. The full effects of opening all seven seals include all seven trumpet judgments and the seven bowl judgments: 6 seal judgments + 6 trumpet judgments + 7 bowl judgments = 19 specific judgments in all.
At the opening of the seventh seal, 6 judgments (the six seals) have passed and 13 remain (six trumpets and seven bowls within the seventh trumpet). Therefore, heaven went silent for the span of a half an hour in awe of what was about to happen.
The Truth
"But the LORD is in His holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him." (Habakkuk 2:20)

The Sealing Of God's People
Chapter 7:3
“Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads.”
Chapter Seven is a time of pause, as we await the seventh seal. John the Apostle was now looking away from the events of Chapter Six and saw four angelic beings who are continuing God’s judgment by restraining the winds from circulating the atmosphere and cooling the earth.
“Wait,” the angel was saying. “Wait” before you continue God’s judgment on this world. Something important must be done first. The sealing of the “bond-servants” of God, one hundred and forty-four thousand in total - twelve thousand form each of the twelve tribes of Israel (v.4).
Destruction will come, but protecting His people comes first.
The Truth
The LORD said to him, "Go through the midst of the city, even through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations which are being committed in its midst." But to the others He said in my hearing, "Go through the city after him and strike; do not let your eye have pity and do not spare.” (Ezekiel 9:4-5)

The Things Which Are To Come
Revelation 6
In chapter 6 we are shown the future, the beginning of a seven-year period known as, “The Great Tribulation”. Here God will extract from mankind the price for his rebellion and sin. Although Jesus will eventually reclaim the title deed to the earth, a price will be paid for man’s rejection of Him.
Below is an accounting of what John saw as each seal on the deed was opened. These recorded events give us a timeline, a map, a way to gage the times and the seasons of this great tribulation period, which is to come.
Seal 1 - a man on a white horse, carrying a bow, wearing a crown of olive branches, conquering (v.1-2). This is the antichrist, promising peace and subduing nations with his diplomacy deceiving many with a false peace (see Daniel 8:23-25).
Seal 2 - a rider on a red horse, given a great sword and the power to take peace from the earth (v.3-4). This is war. No earthly man, nor church, or political organization, can bring about a true peace. There may be peace for a season but war will eventually come again. Where does war and fighting come from? According to James, they come from our own lusts, our own desires (see James 4:1-2) War and rumors of war will continue, until the Prince of Peace, Jesus, returns to establish His Kingdom.
Seal 3 – a rider on a black horse, with a pair of balances in his hand measuring out wheat and barley for a penny but, oil and wine will not be rationed (v.6). This signifies a time of possible famine and economic rationing of basic food staples but not on luxuries which man may live without.
Seal 4 – a rider named “death” sitting on a pale horse, Hell followed him, and power was given to them to kill 1/4th of the earth (v.7-8). The period of the fourth seal is one of great slaughter and devastation, destroying whatever may tend to make life happy, making ravages on the spiritual lives of men.
Seal 5 – under the altar, the blood of the souls that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony they held (v. 9-11). Here John saw the souls of the martyrs under the altar; at the foot of the altar in heaven, at the feet of Christ. Persecutors can only kill the body; after that there is no more they can do; for the soul lives.
Seal 6 – a great earthquake; the sun became black, the moon became red, stars fell from the sky (v.12-13). This is God himself getting involved, avenging the blood of His children from being attacked. These events are the emblems that declare the end of the world and the “day of judgment”.
As men have had their day of opportunity, and their season of grace, so God shall have His day of righteous wrath.
The Truth
“Pray that you may be found worthy to escape all of these things.” (Luke 21:36)

The Book
Revelation 5:1
“And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.”
The book John sees is actually a scroll but unlike most scrolls of that period, it had writing on both sides and it was sealed with seven seals. According to Jewish history, the only type of document fitting that description was a title deed to a piece of property, where the owner was unable to pay his debt.
During that time, the owner (unable to pay) would then have to relinquishing his property and a list of his debts would be written on the backside of the deed and sealed with seven seals. If at any time during the ensuing seven years he could pay off his debts, the seals would be broken and the title deed returned.
This explains what is in the hand of the One who sits on the throne. It’s the title deed to the earth. This deed was originally given to Adam in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1:28) but Adam forfeited his right to ownership when he rebelled and transferred it to Satan by his sin (see Romans 5:14, 2 Corinthians 4:4, John 12:31). Man then is to blame for turning the world over to Satan and for the state of the depravity we see in the world today.
The question that remains is, Who is able to meet the requirements, to pay off the debt? Who is worthy to open the book and loose it’s seals and take control of the earth back?
John is told who is worthy in his vision and he tells us in this book.
The Truth
“And one of the elders said to me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” (Revelation 5:5)

Come Up Here
Revelation 4:1
“After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.’”
After the Lord Jesus had instructed the apostle to write to the churches the things that are, there was another vision given to John. The apostle saw a throne set in heaven, the glorious One upon the throne (v.2-3), four-and-twenty seats around the throne that were filled with four-and-twenty elders (representing, probably, the whole church of God v.4), the seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne (v.5) and four living creatures (v.6-8), between the throne and the circle of the elders, standing between God and the people – the judgment seat of Christ.
Courtrooms are built to intimidate and dispense justice and the Supreme Court’s room is the most intimidating place of judgment on earth. However, it can also be a place of comfort as well, a welcome sight to those who are innocent and seek vindication.
The throne room in heaven, the judgment seat of Christ, can be both a terrifying and welcome sight as well. The only question is, are you in Christ? Or are you not? If not, come now while there is still a time of grace before He calls all before His throne.
The Truth
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

The Things That Are - Part 2
Revelation 3
Here in Ch.3 John describes the state of the remaining three churches, as they were seen through the eyes of God, during that time. Again, each church is in need of change, called to repent and warned of the consequences against not heeding God’s correction.
The church of Sardis had somehow lost its way; no longer recognizing or acknowledging that, Jesus is the Way to the Father. The Church of Philadelphia was infiltrated by counterfeits calling themselves “Christian” or “Jew” but they were neither. In Laodicea (as in many parts of the world today), many people were affluent to the point where they thought, “I’ve got all that I need!” “I don’t need God.”
These examples are not limited to the time period in which they were written, for the same attitudes can be seen in many churches today. They should confirm in our hearts however the need to defend the following key points of church doctrine; 1) Jesus is the way (John 14:6), 2) no counterfeit will save you or I (Acts 4:12) and 3) no amount of earthly riches will get you or I into heaven (Matthew 19:24).
The Truth
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 3:22)

The Things Which Are - Part 1
Revelation 2
Here in Ch.2 John begins to describe the state of the first four (of the seven) churches, as they were in the eyes of God, during that time period. Each church is called out for their faults, warned against continuing down their current path, challenged to repent and shown the outcomes of their choices.
This pattern shows not only God’s love for the church (both then and now), but it also shows how He works in us as individuals. He calls us out when we drift away, His Spirit convicts us of the sin in our lives and gives us a chance to repent, to change our direction.
Ask yourself these 4 questions (which correspond to each church in this chapter); 1) Is my love for my church or my Lord as strong today as it was in the beginning? Or has it left me? 2) Do I fear death? Would I renounce Jesus to save my life? 3) Am I prone to compromise? Do I error on the side of political correctness? 4) Are the things of this world more important to me than the things of God?
Both the church and we as individuals would do well to read this chapter carefully, pray over it and ask God to speak into our hearts concerning areas that need to be strengthened or changed, as not hearing or heeding this information is not an option.
The Truth
“Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10)

Write What You Have Seen
Revelation 1:19
“Therefore write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after these things.”
Here Jesus Christ is telling the Apostle John to record for posterity; 1) that which he saw, his vision (v.10-18), 2) the things that are, the current state of the (7) churches and 3) that which is to come, from then unto the end of the world.
This scripture also gives to us an overview of the book itself; section 1 (chapter 1) presents Him (Jesus Christ) whom John has seen, section 2 (chapters 2-3) addresses the things that are, the state of the 7 churches and finally, section 3 (chapters 4-22) the things yet to come.
This book is like no other in scripture and promises a blessing on those who read it or hear it. Join me through Revelation and be blessed one chapter at a time.

The Cloud And The Fire
Exodus 40:38
“For throughout all their journeys, the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel."
Once again we see the “cloud” by day and the “fire” at night signifying God’s presents with His people. While the cloud was visible over the tabernacle the son’s of Israel remained in their location and did not journey forward (v.38). However, once the cloud was “taken up”, the son’s of Israel would set out on a new location directed by God for His work (v.36).
Just as the children of Israel were looking for God’s direction in moving them forward, so we need to be sensitive to His Spirit in our lives moving us forward into a new direction as well.
Pray, be open, and listen for that still small voice leading you in His direction and plan for your life.
The Truth
“The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” (Isaiah 58:11)

Blessed Through Their Work
Exodus 39:43
“And Moses did look on all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.”
Here Moses examined the tabernacle to see if it was completed “according to the pattern” shown him. Being satisfied, he expressed his own approval and God’s, by blessing those (through prayer) who had worked so faithfully.
No wages were paid to the workers for this accomplishment. They worked for the pleasure of serving, along with the honor and comfort of God’s tabernacle among them.
What service have you given to God? How have you shown Him your gratitude? Pray, listen, He will direct you to your work for Him.
The Truth
Those whom God employs he will bless, and those whom He blesses are blessed indeed.

The Accounting
Exodus 38:21
“This is the sum of the tabernacle, even of the tabernacle of testimony, as it was counted, according to the commandment of Moses, for the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar, son to Aaron the priest.”
By Moses’s appointment the Levites took and kept an account of the gold, silver, and brass, that was brought in for the use of the tabernacle, and how it was employed. Ithamar, the son of Aaron, was appointed to draw up this account.
As we give to God’s work in our churches today, there are those who are responsible for the collection, accounting and distribution of those funds as well. Pray for them, as they have a great reckoning to answer for, both now and later.
The Truth
“He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.” (Luke 16:10)

The Making Of The Ark
Exodus 37:1
“And Bezaleel made the ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half was the length of it, and a cubit and a half the breadth of it, and a cubit and a half the height of it…”
The ark, with its glorious workmanship, the mercy-seat and the cherubim, was the principal part of the furniture of the tabernacle. It was placed in the most sacred position of the house, and was the great symbol of the divine presence and protection. “It represented,” says Matthew Henry, “the glory of a holy God, the sincerity of a holy heart, and the communion that is between them by a Mediator.
It is a notion of some Jewish writers that the ark was made by Bezaleel, without the help of others. One could make a good case for this based on Exodus 31:1-5. Also, the particular maker of the various parts and contents of the tabernacle, is not mentioned elsewhere. Thus, this mentioning of Bezaleel is emphatic, and seems intended to mark the employment of the highest artistic skill on that which was the most precious of all objects connected with the new construction.
However, more importantly for us, it is the exactness of the workmanship, no matter who completed it. We too should be seeking to follow exactly, the influences of God’s direction in our lives through His Holy Spirit. Only then we may rejoice in and glorify God while in this world.
The Truth
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.” (Ephesians 1:17-19)

Stop Giving - We Have Enough
Exodus 36:4-5
“So all the skilled workers who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left what they were doing and said to Moses, ‘The people are bringing more than enough for doing the work the Lord commanded to be done.”’
Here the skilled workers had taken an estimate of what was to be done, and what was necessary to accomplish the task. They then advised Moses of it, so nothing more would be brought.
It’s hard to say which is more amazing here, the great liberality of the people in contributing so freely and bountifully, and continuing to do so without being urged, or even asked; or the honesty of the workmen, who might have gone on to have received the gifts of the people by the hands of Moses, and converted it to their own use; but instead, they agreed to let Moses know to prevent the people from making any more contributions.
Either way you look at this, you would be hard pressed to find this kind of generosity and honesty today.
The Truth
“He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

A Freewill Offering
Exodus 35:29
“The Israelites, all the men and women, whose heart moved them to bring material for all the work, which the Lord had commanded through Moses to be done, brought a freewill offering to the Lord."
Just as the Israelites gave freely of their substance to the work of God, so our tithes, offerings and gifts to the Lord are meant to be given with a "willing heart" (v.5) to His work as well. Even more than "willing," we are to delight in what we give knowing that all we have comes from the Lord. Paul the Apostle remarked in 2 Corinthians 9:7, "...God loves a cheerful giver."
Giving is so much more than money. Our lives are full of TIME that we often waste, and skills that we may view as "ours”. Giving freely to God’s work can mean, the giving of your talents and skills as well. Both the Israelite women (v.25-26) and men (v.30-35) did just that.
When one freely gives something, somehow the need to get it back diminishes, joy tends to grow and you don't lose anything by giving. Jesus said, in Luke 6:38, "Give and it will be given to you..." A loose translation, you can't out give God. He will not be in your debt.
The Truth
“So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Renewal Of The Covenant
Exodus 34:1
“And the LORD said to Moses, Hew you two tables of stone like to the first: and I will write on these tables the words that were in the first tables, which you broke.”
Here Moses (in his old age) is summoned once more to the top of Mt. Sinai, where the Law is to be delivered afresh to him. He is ordered to bring with him tables of stone like the former ones, to receive their written contents from God’s hand.
Before the covenant could be formally reestablished, before Israel could be replaced in the position forfeited by the idolatry of the golden calf, it was necessary that the conditions (on which God consented to establish His covenant with them) be renewed.
This second set of tablets was to do just that. Hewn by the hand of Moses, it would remind both him and the people of the hardness of their hearts and of their loss through it, not having the law on tables of stone, which were the work of God, but which were the work of man.
This reminds us all that something is always lost by sin....even when it is forgiven.
The Truth
And He said: “Behold, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the Lord. For it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.” (Exodus 34:10)

Face To Face
Exodus 33:11a
“The Lord spoke unto Moses face to face, as a man speaks to a friend.”
God revealed himself to Moses with greater clearness and with expressions of particular kindness, more than to any other of His prophets. He spoke to him not as a prince to a subject, but as a man to his friend, whom he loves, and with whom he takes sweet counsel.
Not that God had a face or mouth, that Moses could see, (which was denied him in Exodus 33:20) even still He spoke with him directly, and not as He did to other prophets, in dreams, or visions, or by an angel.
Would you like to speak to God, face to face? A part of us might be afraid of such an encounter, but another part wants that relationship. Why? because you and I need His perspective, His thoughts, His presents in our lives if we are to become more like Moses and boldly go before the Lord in prayer.
There are good reasons why we don't see the invisible God. We are so sinful, even when we think we're not, and He is so holy, so pure, that we would not survive the experience. When we're ready, which is likely not until eternity, we will see Him face to face. Until then, TRUST in the Lord, seek Him, know that He hears you and answers prayer.
Moses never had enough of the Lord—he always wanted more (v.18). We should always want more of the Lord as well, who is limitless in what He is and what He has in store for us.
The Truth
“One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.” (Psalm 27:4)

Moses Intercedes
Exodus 32:14
“And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do to his people.”
We see in this verse that the intercession of Moses earlier (v.11-13) was effectual. In answer to the prayers of Moses, God showed his purpose of sparing the people (as he had before seemed determined on their destruction). This change in the outward appearance of his purpose is called, repenting of the evil.
“God is not a man that he should repent” (Numbers 23:19). He "knows the end from the beginning” (Isaiah 46:10). When he threatened to destroy Israel, he knew that he would spare them; but, as he communicated to Moses, first, his anger, and then, at a later period, his intention to spare them, he is said to have "repented."
Just as Moses made intercession for Israel to God then, so Jesus makes intercession for us to God now.
We can’t change the mind of God, His ways are above our ways and we are not His counselor. However, we can pray for His will and be in agreement with His ultimate will, knowing Jesus will intercede for us.
The Truth
“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)

God's Gifting Through His Spirit
Exodus 31:1-5
"Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 'See, I have called by name Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship.'"
These verses tell us that the "natural" skills, abilities and talents possessed by otherwise ordinary people, are from God. Even though the persons themselves may not understand, "natural" gifts are generated through His Holy Spirit. We can misuse them, but they are His.
I have no artistic ability whatsoever but both of my children are extremely talented, one an artist and the other a musician. There is no doubt in my mind these were gifts to them from God. Yes they both work hard at their individual crafts but I could work 8 hours a day 7 days a week and never come close to their abilities. Why, because I was not gifted in that way.
Our talents, are given to us by God, for purposes infinitely higher than our own. Find yours, use it for Him and give thanks to the One who blessed you with it.
The Truth
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” (Psalm 139:14)

The Altar Of Incense - Prayer
Exodus 30:1
"Moreover, you shall make an altar as a place for burning incense; you shall make it of acacia wood.” (v.1) “And thou shall put it before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee.” (v.6)
Incense in Scripture is always a picture of prayer. Here in verse 1 we see that incense was to be burned on the altar because prayer requires sacrifice. When we take the time to pray and intercede for others to God through Christ, our prayers rise as sweet smelling incense to Him. David prayed in Psalm 141:2, “Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.”
Verse 6 describes the exact location where the altar was to be placed and there God would meet with the priest. While this applied to Levite priests in that time under the law, you and I (as His children) can meet with God through His Son at any time and in any place.
And be assured, those prayers will rise to Him.
The Truth
“Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand.” (Revelation 8:3-4)
