Genesis 12:1
“Now the LORD had said to Abram, Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you:”
Here we see the call of Abram from his native land into a land of promise. Through the call, Abram was tried whether he loved God better than all, and whether he could willingly leave all to go with God. The vagueness of the command here is significant as well. Abram did not know where he was headed. He is not told that Canaan is the land of promise, until he has reached it.
The command God gave to Abram, is much the same as the call of the gospel - leaving our old life of sin and those things which would drag us down, to follow Him. Remember, if we ‘go out’ as He bids us, He will show us what to do next.
The Truth
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.” (Genesis 17:1)
