“But our
High Priest offered Himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all
time. Then He sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. There He
waits until His enemies are humbled and made a footstool under His feet.”
(vv.12-13)
Since
atonement for sin could never be achieved through the bodies of sacrificial
animals, God prepared a body for His Son. It was in that body that Jesus
offered Himself on the Cross as the final sacrifice. The Hebrews, and all
believers before and since, were the beneficiaries of His death. The sacrificial system had been replaced by the New Covenant through the wounds of His flesh.
The
Truth: “But he was
wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the
chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
(Isaiah 53:5)
