“Now I (Paul) plead with you,
brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same
thing, and that there be no
divisions among you, but that
you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.”
(v.10)
Paul, while
in Rome, heard that the church in Corinth had become divided into four groups.
He writes this first letter to address the problem, reminding them that the
church should be about Jesus; not about a founder, or a powerful personality,
or a skilled speaker. Why? Because when greater emphasis is put on the orator, rather
than the Word itself, Jesus suffers.
Today many Christians
church hop. They’re looking for the “feel good” place, or the hip place, or the entertainment place. While there are plenty of churches who specifically plan,
target, attract, and promote these kinds of agendas - like Paul, we need to seek
Jesus and be of one mind when it comes to who and what we are worshiping, and
why we are gathering.
As Paul
would say, remember in who’s name you were saved, baptized, and in whom you
have your hope - not in man but in the LORD.
The Truth
“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according
to Christ Jesus, that you may
with one mind and one
mouth glorify the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:6)
