“In
the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth of the month, the word of
the Lord came to me saying, “Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of
Egypt and prophesy against him and against all Egypt.” (vv.1-2)
Pharaoh,
king of Egypt, claimed to be the Nile’s owner and originator. He and all Egypt
boasted, “My River is my own; I have made it for myself” (vv.3,9). Romans 11:36
says, “For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory
forever.” He is the One who also endows humanity with the ability to
manufacture and invent man-made resources.
Only
God can provide a river in a desert as a life sustaining resource. It is arrogance
and prideful to presume a nation, or its leader, or a hyper spirit of
nationalism, could take credit for what He has created. To God should have been
the glory, not man. As a result, God promised to punish the nation (vv.8-9),
and gave Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who would carry off all its
wealth” (v.19).
God
is in control, not us, and we must never lose sight of that. He owns everything: as the
psalmist David wrote, “The earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it,” not man's. Therefore glorify God, the One who holds this entire world together.
The
Truth: “To God be the glory, great things He has done.” Fanny Crosby - 1875
