“Deborah Leads by Faith”
Then Barak
said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go
with me, I will not go.” She (Deborah) said, “I will surely go with you;
nevertheless, the honor shall not be yours on the journey that you are about to
take, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hands of a woman.” (vv.8-9)
Here
Barak preferred the inspiration of Deborah’s presence to that of the Almighty
God. It was God who had commanded him to draw his forces towards the River
Kishon, and had promised to deliver Sisera into his hand (vv. 6-7). But, he
seemed unable to rise to that command alone. If only he could have Deborah
beside him he would go, but otherwise not.
Deborah
had the courage and Godly confidence that Barak lacked. She also understood the
history of God’s divine guidance and protection of His people and had faith to
obey His command.
May we all have the faith of Deborah.
May we all have the faith of Deborah.
The
Truth
“Commit
your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:5)
