“The Giving of Two Mites”
“And He
looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw
also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, “’Truly I say to
you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these
out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty
put in all the livelihood that she had.”’ (v.1-4)
Giving to
God is never about the amount but the cost. For some people can put in $100.00
into the weekly offering very easily while others, to put in even $1.00 may be
costly. Offerings to our Lord, no matter how small, demonstrate our love, our
faith, our recognition and appreciation of His mercy in our lives. It is a
private and personal expression of our gratitude for His provision.
Just as the
women who gave two mites (less than 1/4 of a cent), it is never about the amount when
giving to God but the cost. What did Jesus give? What did our salvation cost
Him? What are you will to give in return?
The Truth
Then the
king (David) said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a
price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which
costs me nothing.” (2 Samuel 24:24)
