Luke 19

“Fulfilling His Purpose”

“For the Son of man came to seek and save the lost” (v.10)

The scribes and the Pharisees were always looking to discredit Jesus. In this chapter, Luke records Jesus visiting the home of a well-known tax collector in Jericho named Zacchaeus (v.5). These Pharisees and scribes began to murmur, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.” (v.7)

Exactly! Thank God that He was willing to converse with sinners and not keep to those who were already saved. As Paul wrote to Timothy, “I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy (1 Timothy 1:13). Many people, including myself, found God’s mercy and grace as Paul did because someone shared the gospel with us, and now we claim the name of Jesus.

For this was “His purpose” in coming, to save you and I with love and patience. Now go and do likewise.

The Truth

“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1:15)
