Matthew 5:14
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”
Jesus gives the Christian both a great compliment and a great responsibility when He says that we are the light of the world because, He claimed that title for Himself as He walked this earth (John 8:12).
While on earth, He was like the sun and was the Source of all spiritual light. But just as the sun goes down and is followed by the rising moon which reflects the light of the sun, so too believers are now to be "moons" who reflect the light of the Son!
As believers, we are to let our actions speak louder than our words. Our life should open doors of opportunity for our lips to speak the Gospel (1 Peter 3:15). Let your light so shine.
The Truth
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)
