Matthew 1
Chapter 1 traces the genealogy of Jesus Christ in verses 1-17. Matthew begins by saying Jesus is the rightful Heir to the throne of Israel both racially and royally (v.1).
Racially, He is the Son of Abraham (Ge 22:18) and royally, He is the Son of David (Luke 20:41, Matthew 22:42). Though He was not the immediate Son of either, He descended from both.
