Revelation 18
“Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”
In contrast to the world wailing over the complete and utter destruction of Babylon (v.11-19), we find Heaven rejoicing (v.20) at the destruction of “The Great Harlot” which is said to be God’s vengeance of “the blood of His servants shed by her” (Rev.19:2).
Moses taught Israel a song prior to crossing into the Promised Land, it ended with the promise of God’s vengeance concerning the spilled blood of His servants: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people; for He will avenge the blood of His servants, and render vengeance to His adversaries; He will provide atonement for His land and His people” (Deu.32:43).
As Jesus said in his parable of the unjust judge, “And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily” (Luke 18:7-8).
One message communicated at both the beginning and the end of scripture. One truth to go along with this one, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. (Romans 12:19)
The Truth
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6)
